Do cellphones cause brain cancer?

With the rise of cellphone or mobile phone usage, there is growing concern that radiofrequency energy emitted by the phones can increase the risks of brain cancers. As cancer.gov states, “The number of cell phone users has increased rapidly. As of December 2014, there were more than 327.5 million cell phone subscribers in the United States, according to the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. This is a nearly threefold increase from the 110 million users in 2000. Globally, the number of subscriptions is estimated by the International Telecommunications Union to be 5 billion.” (https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/radiation/cell-phones-fact-sheet) A number of studies have approximated the potential dangers of cellphone usage with regards to radio waves and cancers ranging from animal studies to human cohort studies. However, because of the recent dramatic increase in cellphone usage, long term risks are not yet fully understood. We are examining the strongest evidence to understand these risks.
